A lot has happened since the EFYE Education Center was founded in 2018 - not least because of the great support we have received from near and far. We look forward to further developments and to growing together. Expansion of the EFYE Education Centre<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Due to new government regulations regarding class sizes, the number of school children, which was around 75 at the time, had to be significantly increased at short notice. In order to have enough classrooms available, we expanded the school with a second rental building directly opposite. Even if the expansion of the school was accompanied by logistical and financial challenges, we are still happy that we have been able to give school education to over 100 children since then.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Coping with the pandemic situation<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

From the start of school operations until March 2020, the school had grown to around 80 children and two additional teachers. The concern for the well-being of everyone was all the greater when the Education Center had to close for the time being at the beginning of the pandemic. Thanks to a food and hygiene program that we set up, we were able to support the children and their families as much as possible in the months that followed and maintain contact. There was great relief when we were able to resume school operations in 2021 under special hygiene measures, especially since numerous other educational institutions (both for-profit and non-profit) had to shut down completely.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Logo and school uniforms<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Having settled into day-to-day school life with 50 children, we found time for designing some details of our school. We created a school logo, painted the outside fence in our EFYE colours, designed a banner for the school and had a school uniform made for every child. Now, the children do not just feel like a school community internally but can also be recognized as such externally.\u00a0<\/p>

After a short planning phase, we started looking for suitable premises for the EFYE Education Center and found what we were looking for in a Protestant community center on the edge of the Mathare slum. We renovated the entire building and then furnished the individual rooms with school furniture made locally in the neighborhood.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The EFYE Education Center has existed as a state-recognized preschool and primary school since the end of 2018.
