Welcome to the EFYE Education Centre!
The EFYE Education Center is the heart of our non-profit organization EFYE (Eagle’s Fountain Youth Empowerment). Als Vor- und Grundschule bietet es ca. 110 Kindern im Slum Mathare, Nairobi, einen Zufluchtsort mit Zukunftsperspektive. Von hier aus versuchen wir gemeinsam Kinder und Jugendliche durch Bildungsarbeit zu befähigen, für sich und ihr Umfeld nachhaltig eine bessere Zukunft aufzubauen und Chancenungleichheiten aufzulösen. Wir wollen, dass die Kinder bestärkt in ihrer Persönlichkeit sowie auch körperlich gesund aus der Schulzeit hervorgehen und wissen, wie sie selbstbewusst und zuversichtlich ihr weiteres Leben angehen können. Bildung ist dafür grundlegend und hier im EFYE Education Centre für alle Kinder kostenlos.

The foundation of our work is education. But education does not only mean transmitting subject-specific knowledge. Through collaborative learning and interacting, the children also develop the ability to think and interact autonomously in interconnected social and cultural contexts. Our teachers accompany the children and adolescents throughout the course of their personal development and support them to find and follow their own path.

The EFYE Education Centre is also a place of security and affection. Some of the children and adolescents experience what it means to be there for one another and to support each other for the first time in their life. The children are friends who laugh and play together. Our teachers are amazing reference persons, looking after the children in a competent, caring manner, giving them a feeling of security and protection.

Health and Nutrition
Besides mental strength we also promote the children’s physical health. Daily warm meals prepared by our cook Jane, weekly servings of fruits as well as essential hygiene measures like washing hands and cleaning the rooms are integral parts of everyday school life at EFYE Education Centre. In this way, the children and adolescents develop and increase their health awareness which is especially important in the environment of informal settlements.
